Ground Engineering

Foundation contractors in Surrey for extensions, self-builds and new starts.

LG Groundworks delivers foundation and piling packages across Surrey for extensions, basements, new-build homes, and commercial starts where ground conditions, access, and programme matter.

We work closely with structural engineers and Building Control so every trench, pile, cage, and concrete pour matches the design intent. Our owned plant helps us handle tight-access Surrey sites, shrinkable clay, made-up ground, and deeper formation levels without handing the programme to third parties.

Foundation Preparation
Surrey Coverage

Where foundations and piling work wins us enquiries.

These are the towns where buyers most often search for foundation contractors, trench fill teams, and piling support. Linking service intent to location intent helps both users and search engines understand where LG Groundworks is the right fit.

Engineer + Building Control coordination

We sequence inspections, trench approvals, rebar, and pours so groundworks packages keep moving without unnecessary site downtime.

Ground-specific foundation options

Strip footings, trench fill, mini piling, and RC rafts are selected against the site conditions instead of pushing a one-size-fits-all approach.

Useful before drainage and slab work

Foundation pages now connect directly to related drainage, basement, site prep, and formwork services so the journey matches a real build programme.

Our Capabilities

Foundation Systems

Strip Footings

Traditional mass concrete foundations. Ideal for ground with good bearing capacity, supporting load-bearing walls directly.

Trench Fill

Narrow trenches filled with concrete to just below ground level. Reduces brickwork required below ground and speeds up the build.

Trench Excavation

Piling & Mini Piling

Essential for unstable ground or deep made-up soil. We install driven or bored piles to transfer structural loads to deeper, more stable strata.

RC Rafts

Reinforced concrete slabs that spread the load of the building over the entire footprint. Used where ground conditions vary across the site.

01. Set Out

Using laser levels, we mark out the exact footprint and excavation lines.

02. Excavate

Trenches are dug to the depth required by the structural engineer and soil analysis.

03. Reinforce

Installation of steel rebar, mesh, or heave protection (clayboard) if required.

04. Pour

Concrete is poured, vibrated to remove air pockets, and leveled to datum.

Foundation FAQs

Piling is required when the ground is too weak to support a building (e.g., deep clay, made-up ground) or near large trees where roots might affect standard footings.

Trench Fill: Fills the excavation almost entirely with concrete. Faster and reduces brickwork below ground.
Strip Foundation: Uses a thinner layer of concrete with masonry blocks built up to ground level.

Yes. A Building Inspector must approve the bottom of the trench before concrete is poured. We coordinate these visits to ensure no delays in your schedule.
