Foundations &
Piling
Building on Solid Ground.
LG Groundworks delivers high-quality foundation solutions tailored to the specific geological conditions of your site.
We work closely with structural engineers and Building Control to ensure every trench, pile, and cage meets strict regulatory standards. Our fleet of excavators and piling rigs allows us to handle difficult access sites and varied soil types, from stable chalk to shrinkable clay.

Foundation Systems
Strip Footings
Traditional mass concrete foundations. Ideal for ground with good bearing capacity, supporting load-bearing walls directly.
Trench Fill
Narrow trenches filled with concrete to just below ground level. Reduces brickwork required below ground and speeds up the build.
Piling & Mini Piling
Essential for unstable ground or deep made-up soil. We install driven or bored piles to transfer structural loads to deeper, more stable strata.
RC Rafts
Reinforced concrete slabs that spread the load of the building over the entire footprint. Used where ground conditions vary across the site.
01. Set Out
Using laser levels, we mark out the exact footprint and excavation lines.
02. Excavate
Trenches are dug to the depth required by the structural engineer and soil analysis.
03. Reinforce
Installation of steel rebar, mesh, or heave protection (clayboard) if required.
04. Pour
Concrete is poured, vibrated to remove air pockets, and leveled to datum.
Foundation FAQs
Piling is required when the ground is too weak to support a building (e.g., deep clay, made-up ground) or near large trees where roots might affect standard footings.
Trench Fill: Fills the excavation almost entirely with concrete. Faster and reduces brickwork below ground.
Strip Foundation: Uses a thinner layer of concrete with masonry blocks built up to ground level.
Yes. A Building Inspector must approve the bottom of the trench before concrete is poured. We coordinate these visits to ensure no delays in your schedule.
