Use this at the planning stage.
This guide helps you prepare questions and information. Project designs, ground conditions and any required approvals need to be confirmed by the relevant professionals.
Check the same scope is priced
Set the proposals beside the same current design. Confirm excavation limits, foundations, drainage, concrete, reinstatement and any demolition or enabling. Look for works described as excluded, provisional or by others; they may still need a contractor and a programme allowance.
Check the quantities and assumptions
A fixed drawing quantity and a provisional allowance have different commercial effects. Ask which dimensions, ground information, material classification and access conditions have been assumed. Clarify how changes are measured and agreed if the site differs.
Include the surrounding operations
Muck-away, imported stone, reinforcement fixing, concrete pumping, temporary works and testing can sit outside a headline rate. Identify who provides them and whether attendance, equipment moves and return visits are covered.
Agree what completion means
Final levels, inspection records, testing, drainage information and site cleanliness should be understood before work starts. Ask for payment stages and the variation process in the written agreement; the website enquiry is a request for review, not an acceptance of a contract.
