Use this at the planning stage.
This guide helps you prepare questions and information. Project designs, ground conditions and any required approvals need to be confirmed by the relevant professionals.
Get ready before mobilisation
A planned start depends on more than contractor availability. Confirm what drawings are ready, what the team needs to review and how the site will be accessed. Identify any design information, surveys, permissions or third-party arrangements that remain outstanding. The responsible project team should agree which items are needed before each stage can proceed.
- Define the package and drawing revisions
- Agree the site access and working area
- Identify decisions still awaiting the project team
- Coordinate deliveries and the following trades
Sequence the ground stages
An agreed package may move through clearance and enabling, setting out, excavation, foundation preparation, drainage and the ground floor. Some activities can overlap; others depend on a previous stage being complete and checked. Drainage routes and service entries should be coordinated with the building layout so later work does not require avoidable reopening.
Plan around hold points
Allow space in the programme for the checks and records specified by the designer, building control or other relevant parties. Concrete deliveries and follow-on work should be coordinated with those arrangements. The required curing and loading conditions depend on the specification; a generic online timetable cannot determine when your structure is ready for the next operation.
Keep the programme useful as work develops
Ground conditions, weather, delivery restrictions and changes to the design can affect the sequence. Agree who communicates updates and how a changed date affects other trades. At the first conversation, tell LG both your preferred start and any fixed milestone. Those dates help the team assess the scope without treating an initial target as a confirmed booking.
